Street Lighting Installation Operative / Electrician’s Assistant (Leeming Bar or Harrogate)

Salary: £32,433–£34,191| Full‑time, Permanent

Location: Leeming Bar or Harrogate, North Yorkshire

Like working outdoors and getting stuck into real, physical work?

The Job

  • Groundworks: digging, reinstatement, tarmac, flags, block paving
  • Install lighting columns & roadside assets
  • Operate Class 2 LGVs + HIAB lifting equipment (training offered)
  • Set up traffic management + work safely on site
  • Support electricians with basic tasks underground and above ground

Mechanic (Northallerton)

Location: Northallerton, North Yorkshire

Contract: Permanent, Full time 40 hours per week

Hours: 7:30am – 4.00pm

Remuneration: £40,100.66 - £42,794.35 per year with additional hours available:

Salary: £34,796.66 - £37,490.35 p.a.

Market Supplement: £3,000 p.a.

Tool allowance: £427 p.a.

Standby payments: £1,877 p.a. (hourly rate for call outs £23.64 - £25.47 per hour)

NY Highways is a growing, commercially‑minded company, working in close partnership with North Yorkshire Council, that keeps the county’s roads, vehicles and plant running smoothly.  Our Northallerton workshop is clean, well‑equipped with a strong team who take pride in doing a good job.

You’ll work on a wide mix of kit, from vans and LGVs to gritters and specialist plant, so no two days are the same. There’s plenty of variety, solid job security and support to keep developing your skills.

·       Class C LGV licence

·       City & Guilds, NVQ, BTEC or equivalent in HGV maintenance or strong mechanical experience.  We’d be willing to develop your Heavy Goods Vehicle knowledge.

·       Diagnostic experience across multiple brands

·       Ability to work flexibly and get stuck in

·       Good communication and teamwork skills

Road Marking Specialist (Brompton on Swale)

Salary: From £34,796 per year plus standby, weekend and night working payments
Contract: Permanent, Full Time. 40 hours per week (with additional hours available)
Location: Brompton on Swale, North Yorkshire

As a Road Marking Specialist, you will:

  • Apply permanent and temporary road markings using thermoplastic and paint materials
  • Operate specialist road marking vehicles, plant and equipment
  • Prepare and set out work areas in line with drawings, standards and site requirements
  • Install, maintain and remove temporary traffic management
  • Undertake line‑removal operations using approved methods
  • Complete vehicle and plant checks, maintain accurate work records and ensure compliance with safety and quality procedures
  • Support delivery of the Winter Maintenance service and participate in an out‑of‑hours call‑out rota

What You’ll Bring:

  • Experience in road marking operations and using relevant plant and equipment
  • Knowledge of highways safety, environmental and quality requirements
  • A full driving and Category CE licence
  • Ability to problem‑solve, follow procedures and work safely with initiative
  • Strong teamwork, communication and customer‑focused approach
  • Flexibility to work outdoors, in all weather, and respond to call‑outs
  • Willingness to undertake required training (e.g. Manual Handling, Banksman, Abrasive Wheels, First Aid)
