Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Diagnosing faults and completing repairs using modern diagnostic equipment.
  • Servicing, inspections and routine maintenance on a range of vehicles.
  • Preparing vehicles for MOT and brake testing.
  • Ensure work is carried out in line with the workshop and H&S procedures.
  • Work in line with NY Highways policies and procedures and be aware of the obligations for employees under these.
  • Comply with health and safety policies, organisational statements and procedures.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Class C licence.
  • Level 3 qualification or equivalent mechanical experience.
  • Diagnostic experience across multiple brands.
  • Ability to work flexibly and get stuck in.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Street Sweeper Driver (Skipton)

NY Highways are looking for Street Sweeper Drivers to help maintain the roads, streets and public spaces in and around Skipton, North Yorkshire, making them clean, safe and welcoming for everyone.  This is a varied role that combines street sweeping duties with hands on highways maintenance work, including supporting road repair and maintenance projects alongside our Highways teams when required.

This is more than just a driving role. It’s an opportunity to play a key part in delivering an essential front-line service that local residents, businesses and visitors rely on every day.

What you’ll be doing

·       Drive and operate LGV road sweeping vehicles

Road Marking Specialist

Salary: From £34,796 per year (plus standby, weekend and night working payments)
Grade: 6
Contract: Permanent, Full Time.

At NY Highways, our work is seen on every road, every day. We’re looking for experienced road marking specialists to join our small expert team, playing a vital role in keeping roads safe and clearly navigable for everyone.

We’ve recently obtained a brand new Volvo FL / 42 R' Lining vehicle, so you’ll be working with modern equipment to apply a wide range of markings using both thermoplastic and paint.

The role is specifically working for the County’s Highways Service, so travel as part of the role will only ever be within the County of North Yorkshire, a big benefit if you want to limit work related travel time.

What you’ll be doing:

No two days are the same. You’ll be:

  • Applying road markings using thermoplastic and paint systems
  • Operating specialist road marking vehicles and equipment
  • Setting up safe work zones and traffic management
  • Carrying out line removal and maintenance works
  • Working across North Yorkshire on a variety of projects
  • Supporting winter maintenance and emergency response when needed

From major drainage improvements and kerbing schemes to paving and public realm works, you'll play a key role in projects that improve communities across North Yorkshire.

  • Reading and interpreting construction drawings and specifications

  • Working across North Yorkshire, with travel to sites throughout the county (company vehicle provided)

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

Essential

  • Experience working in highways maintenance, construction, civil engineering or groundworks
  • Confidence and competence in high-standard finishing works including paving, kerbing and drainage
  • Knowledge of highways construction schemes and site operations
  • Experience working on medium to large-scale construction projects
  • Strong health and safety awareness
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • NRSWA Operative accreditation (Modules 01-08)
  • Plant certification such as NPORS or CPCS
  • SSSTS (Site Supervisors' Safety Training Scheme)
  • Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings
  • Experience operating plant including excavators, dumpers and rollers
