▼ Electrician (Street Lighting)

Salary:  £37,570 - £40,807 (Grade 7)

Location: Leeming Bar Depot – with travel across North Yorkshire

Contract: Permanent, Full-time, Monday to Friday

As NY Highways continue to grow, we are looking for an Electrician to join the Street Lighting team to play an integral part in our operations, helping us to deliver the best service to our community.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a street lighting background, with the passion and enthusiasm to drive the team forward into ever expanding markets, such as EV charging points.

As an Electrician:

You will work alongside a team of electricians to provide street lighting renewal, maintenance, and repairs to over 52,000 units across North Yorkshire. With health and safety at the forefront, you will successfully install all aspects of street furniture including columns, signposts, and bollards. You will carry out regular inspections and testing, finding faults in lighting equipment and locating and repairing underground cable faults in-line with electrical codes, regulations, and standards.

In additional to your experience, you will also have knowledge of the constantly changing nature of Highway Maintenance (specifically street lighting) and bring a flexible approach to work, being able to adapt as and when required.

You will be based at the Leeming Bar depot, where you will be able to pick up required equipment as needed and meet with the wider Street Lighting team, however, will spend most of your time working in different locations across the county.

To be successful in the role, you will have some of the following skills and experience:

·       Be qualified to the current IET Wiring regulations (BS7671/18th edition).

·       Hold City and Guilds 2330 Level 3 and have experience of carrying out testing.

.       Completed 714 inspection and testing.

·       A good working knowledge of electrical works, repairs, testing & new infrastructure installation.

·       Knowledge of current guidance and legislation with respect to electrical design, inspection, and maintenance.

·       A good understanding of health and safety requirements in an electrical environment.

·       Hold a full UK Drivers Licence.

·       Ability to attend out of hours emergency calls (rota basis).

We are looking for people with experience in the highway or construction industry to join our Whitby and Seamer Carr depots as a Highways Skilled Operative or a Highway Operative with LGV.

 

The Whitby and Seamer Carr teams work closely together on a variety of projects and are proud to offer their services to the largest county in the UK and are dedicated to contributing to our local community and the preservation of the area.

As a Highways Operative, you will:

Work closely with the Ganger to carry out a wide range of skilled tasks including kerbing, drainage installation, patching, ironwork renewal, street furniture installation, and more. You'll also tackle general maintenance duties like site upkeep, traffic management, and roadside verge maintenance and operate specialist highways plant equipment and tools to complete maintenance and repair work.

This role involves participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota for emergencies and winter maintenance activities, and therefore desirable that the successful candidate hold a current Drivers Licence with access to personal transport.

 

To be successful in the role, you will have some of the following skills and experience:

 

·       Banksman

·       Manual Handling

·       Abrasive wheels

·       Emergency First Aid

·       Safe Dig

·       Traffic Management TM1 and TM2

·       Relevant Level 2 qualification in highway maintenance, or relevant work experience

·       Hold a HGV Driving License - City and Guilds Winter 6159 certification for driving and operating gritters or, willingness to undertake training once in post

We are looking for two people with experience in the highway or construction industry to join our Boroughbridge  and Skipton Depots as  Supervisors. The Boroughbridge and Skipton teams are proud to offer their services to the largest county in the UK and are dedicated to contributing to our local community and the preservation of the area.

 

The teams recently completed approximately 48,000sqm of resurfacing works on high profile roads, including large patching and full width resurfacing, allowing residents and visitors safer travel along the area.  There are other projects in the pipeline, that you can be involved in that will see vast improvements made across Boroughbridge, Skipton and the surrounding areas.

As a Supervisor:

You will be responsible for the strategic oversight of highways operational activities, including quality, environmental and safety obligations. Your excellent communication skills will allow you to supervise all highways and construction works effectively whilst overseeing your team of operatives, subcontractors, Supervisors and Depot Supervisors.

Collaborating closely with the Senior Supervisor, you will focus on the efficient delivery of works packages and the running of the depot while prioritising the health and safety for all employees.  This involves the planning and programming of materials, plant, and labour daily, including the assessment of traffic management to ensure works align to street works requirements.

 

Your ability to organise and plan will allow you to maintain site and financial records and undertake regular projections of spend, performance and progress against agreed works programmes effectively.  You will contribute to the development of your team by coaching and acting as a mentor to ensure everyone has the skillset and experience needed to progress in their own roles.

 

There will be times when you will be required to work in other areas to support a variety of projects.

 

To be successful in the role, you will have some of the following skills and experience:

 

 

·       Have significant experience in highway / construction related activities at Ganger level or equivalent and a demonstrable proven track record.

 

·       Have experience in Traffic Management TM1, TM2 and T7.

 

·       Hold or be willing to undertake training for Winter 6159 Supervisor Unit 621.

 

·       Have working knowledge of The Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works.

 

·       Have a good understanding of quality assurance processes.

 

·       Have a working knowledge and experience of implementing relevant health and safety legislation.

 

·       Be a good communicator, with the ability to motivate others, work in a team and problem solve.
