Salary: From £38,622 (Grade 7)
Location: Based from our Depots in Scarborough, Whitby or Kirby Misperton
Contract: Permanent, Full-time, Monday to Friday
Join NY Highways and help light the way for North Yorkshire’s future.
As NY Highways continue to grow, we are looking for Electricians to join the Street Lighting team to play an integral part in our operations, helping us to deliver the best service to our community.
As an Electrician your role will include:
· Installing and maintaining street lighting and street furniture
· Conducting inspections, fault finding, and repairs
· Locating and repairing underground cable faults
· Ensuring compliance with electrical codes and safety standards
· Collaborating with the wider Street Lighting team across North Yorkshire
In additional to your experience, you will also have knowledge of the constantly changing nature of Highway Maintenance (specifically street lighting) and bring a flexible approach to work, being able to adapt as and when required. The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a street lighting background, with the passion and enthusiasm to drive the team forward into ever expanding markets, such as EV charging points.
You will be based from a depot in either Scarborough, Whitby or Kirby Misperton, where you will be able to pick up required equipment as needed and meet with the wider Street Lighting team, however, will spend most of your time working in different locations across the county.
To be successful in the role, you will have some of the following skills and experience:
· Be qualified to the current IET Wiring regulations (BS7671/18th edition).
· Hold City and Guilds 2330 Level 3 and have experience of carrying out testing.
· Completed 714 inspection and testing.
· A good working knowledge of electrical works, repairs, testing & new infrastructure installation.
· Knowledge of current guidance and legislation with respect to electrical design, inspection, and maintenance.
· A good understanding of health and safety requirements in an electrical environment.
· Hold a full UK Drivers Licence.
· Ability to attend out of hours emergency calls (rota basis).

As Street Lighting Supervisor at NY Highways, you will be responsible for supervising and managing operatives, the Street Lighting depot, overseeing the day to day delivery of electrical engineering activities. You will be involved in the varied work we do: Major and Minor Works, Passenger Transport, HEA/HERS staff assessments, Cyclical Bulk clean and change as well as third party external work.

In this role you will
Bring your significant experience in the industry to be able to supervise work streams for both planned and emergency programmes of work, making sure they fit in with time, safety and financial timescales. Your eye for detail will be used from maintaining accurate records of site activities, to helping set setting financial budgets through to ensuring your team are compliant and have their HEA portfolio and assessments up to date.
The successful candidate will be able to motivate others and is confident leading and mentoring junior colleagues including the on boarding on new starters and Apprentices. Taking part in staff appraisals, being a support for your colleagues and setting safety performance measures will all be important aspects of this role.
To be successful in this role you will have:
· City and Guilds Level 3 (or equivalent) in electrical installation
· Wiring Regulations – 18th Edition
· Experience in highway Electrical related activities as an agent, supervisor or equivalent, undertaking, repairs, testing & new infrastructure installation
· Knowledge of current guidance and legislation with respect to street lighting, electrical design, inspection and maintenance.

Based in Northallerton, with travel to sites across North Yorkshire, you will manage a variety of works packages. With £27m worth of schemes planned for 2025/26, these new additional posts are crucial to the successful delivery of these works and to contribute to our ongoing success.
“Bringing innovative solutions to the roads of North Yorkshire and beyond”
In this role, you will work closely with Principal Contractors, Designers, Supervisors and Quantity Surveyors to manage the delivery of all NEC Contracts. Time management and organisation skills are essential to ensure all works are completed in a timely manner and meet all tender values and programmes in line with contractual procedures. Your eye for detail will enable you to review all contractual and payment documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance in accordance with the contract and budget management.
You will prepare and present accurate and complex monthly finances and progress of works packages to the Senior Leadership Team to highlight progress and costs. Using your analytical skills, you will be able to forecast a completion date and expected cost of projects in line with the contract obligations.
You will liaise with many internal and external stakeholders; therefore, excellent communication and negotiation skills are paramount to building strong, working relationships, and ensuring the successful and efficient delivery of works. You will lead your team by being present on site, by conducting regular visits to monitor progress and to identify and resolve any arising issues. The ability to work collaboratively and as a team player are also key for this role.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is already a NEC Project Manager, or an individual who is working within the construction industry with a strong knowledge of NEC 4 contracts who wants to take the next step in their career.
To be successful in the role you will have the following:
· Experience and knowledge of NEC 4 Contracts.
· Experience of delivering packages of works in excess of £1 million.
· Good knowledge and understanding of CDM roles and responsibilities.
· Extensive experience dealing with multi skilled, managerial and professional bodies.
· Good knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety legislation.
· Excellent knowledge and understanding of Bills of Quantities, Defined Costs, Activity schedules etc.

There are other secured projects planned in both Richmond and Thirsk areas, that you can be involved in that will see vast improvements made across these parts of North Yorkshire. Your excellent communication skills will allow you to supervise all highways and construction works effectively whilst overseeing your team of operatives, subcontractors, Supervisors and Depot Supervisors.
Collaborating closely with the Senior Supervisor, you will focus on the efficient delivery of works packages and the running of the depot while prioritising the health and safety for all employees. This involves the planning and programming of materials, plant, and labour daily, including the assessment of traffic management to ensure works align to streetworks requirements.
Your ability to organise and plan will allow you to maintain site and financial records and undertake regular projections of spend, performance and progress against agreed works programmes effectively. You will contribute to the development of your team by coaching and acting as a mentor to ensure everyone has the skillset and experience needed to progress in their own roles.

As a Supervisor:
You will be responsible for the strategic oversight of highways operational activities, including quality, environmental and safety obligations. Your excellent communication skills will allow you to supervise all highways and construction works effectively whilst overseeing your team of operatives, subcontractors, Supervisors and Depot Supervisors.
Collaborating closely with the Senior Supervisor, you will focus on the efficient delivery of works packages and the running of the depot while prioritising the health and safety for all employees. This involves the planning and programming of materials, plant, and labour daily, including the assessment of traffic management to ensure works align to streetworks requirements.
Your ability to organise and plan will allow you to maintain site and financial records and undertake regular projections of spend, performance and progress against agreed works programmes effectively. You will contribute to the development of your team by coaching and acting as a mentor to ensure everyone has the skillset and experience needed to progress in their own roles.

To be successful in the role, you will have some of the following skills and experience:
· Have significant experience in highway / construction related activities at Ganger level or equivalent and a demonstrable proven track record.
· Have experience in Traffic Management TM1, TM2 and T7.

As an External Works Senior Supervisor…
You will lead a skilled team of Gangers, Craftspeople, and Operatives. You will also manage subcontractors to deliver highways external works across North Yorkshire on time and within budget.
Working primarily on-site, you'll play a pivotal role in developing and managing work programmes, delivering the project and ensuring the highest standards of Health and Safety compliance. You’ll oversee Integrated Management System procedures, maintain Health and Safety plans, and collaborate closely with partner organisations and stakeholders.
An important aspect of this role will be working with the Commercial Team during the tender process to produce programmes of work to create efficient work schedules. Your developed financial acumen will help you when regularly reviewing spend and progress projections against agreed work schemes.
Responsibilities will also include contributing to the initial programme development, managing daily resources such as materials, plant, and labour, and providing regular updates on project progress and spending.

Are you looking for a challenging and varied role in highways maintenance? Due to continued growth, NY Highways are looking to welcome a Ganger to support our operations from our depot near Scarborough.
As a Ganger:
You'll lead and direct a minimum 4-person team, overseeing maintenance and construction works across our sites in the Scarborough area of North Yorkshire - from busy towns to smaller market towns and very rural areas, we cover it all.
Responsibilities include ensuring works are completed to specification and on schedule, managing supply chain partners, and conducting a range of skilled tasks such as installing kerb lines, drainage repairs, and footway construction. You'll also handle general maintenance duties, manage traffic, and operate relevant equipment for various routine and cyclical works.
This role involves participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota for emergencies and winter maintenance activities, and therefore desirable that the successful candidate hold a current Drivers Licence with access to personal transport. This is a physically active role, requiring you to work outdoors in all weathers, therefore a reasonable level of fitness is required. You will be provided with full Personal Protective Equipment including outdoor clothing.

Your Role

🔧 What You’ll Do
Work closely with the Ganger to carry out a wide range of skilled tasks including kerbing, drainage installation, patching, ironwork renewal, street furniture installation, and more. You’ll also handle general maintenance duties like site upkeep, traffic management, and roadside verge maintenance, and operate specialist highways plant equipment and tools. This role includes participation in an out-of-hours call-out rota for emergencies and winter maintenance.

This is a physically active role, requiring you to work outdoors in all weathers. A reasonable level of fitness is required. Full Personal Protective Equipment, including outdoor clothing, will be provided.

“Bringing innovative solutions to the roads of North Yorkshire and beyond”
NY Highways provides highways services across North Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. From road maintenance, street lighting and snow clearance to road signs and pavement repairs, we operate in close partnership with North Yorkshire Council. Now we are looking for an enthusiastic HGV Technician to join our team in Northallerton. NY Highways helps to keep North Yorkshire moving and you will be playing a key role in this; helping service the repair of our fleet of 240 vehicles and equipment as well as the 450 North Yorkshire vehicles including 96 North Yorkshire Council IPT buses and community mini buses we maintain.
From your previous work in a similar Technician role, you will help us to deliver the best service to North Yorkshire. We are looking for someone who has experience of working as an HGV Technician within the private or public sector or possibly for HM Forces. With no two days the same, you will work both as part of a team but also use your own initiative to carry out various aspects of vehicle maintenance, MOT preparation, fabrication, brake testing and scheduled servicing, all done using the latest technology.
For this role you will have:
- Class C HGV driving license
- City & Guilds, NVQ or BTEC in HGV vehicle maintenance
- A knowledge of diagnostics across different brands and the use of diagnostic equipment
- Ability to work unsupervised with the flexibility to undertake a wide range of tasks
- Ability to communicate and work well with other colleagues
