Current Vacancies
Do you have experience in LGV vehicle maintenance and are looking for a new challenge? NY Highways is excited to welcome a Fleet Fitter to our team, where you'll play a crucial role in maintaining our fleet to the highest standards.
Salary: £33,849 to £36,469 per year (Grade 6)
Contract: Permanent, Full-time, 40 hours a week
Location: Northallerton, with travel required to sites across North Yorkshire
You will also receive an additional market supplement of £3,000 per year, a tool allowance of £455 per year, and standby payments of £24 per on-call shift, plus a call-out rate starting at £23.64 per hour.
The Role:
As a Fleet Fitter, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a variety of vehicles to DVSA standards. Your key responsibilities will include preparing vehicles for MOT, performing maintenance, servicing, and repairs in line with legislative requirements and our Operators Licence. You will diagnose vehicle faults using the latest technology and diagnostic equipment, conduct scheduled servicing according to manufacturers' guidelines, and rectify reported defects.
Additional duties include brake testing, fabrication, welding, and ensuring all work complies with workshop health and safety procedures. You will also accurately complete vehicle health checks, job cards, and reports, including detailed descriptions of faults and repairs, ensuring compliance with NY Highways policies, procedures, and health and safety regulations.
About You:
To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have experience in LGV vehicle maintenance, with relevant qualifications such as City & Guilds, NVQ, or BTEC. Essential knowledge includes diagnostics across different vehicle brands and the use of diagnostic equipment. Previous experience as an LGV or HGV fitter is important.
We are looking for someone with ability to work unsupervised, plan and organise work effectively, and make decisions within agreed procedures. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential, as is the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and complete accurate records. Personal attributes we are looking for include teamwork, flexibility in working hours, and a willingness to undertake relevant training.
You must be willing to cover out-of-hours work on a 24/7 call-out roster and be able to travel across the county, therefore its desirable that you have access to personal transport.

Do you have Quantity Surveying experience and looking to take the next step in your career?
NY Highways is dedicated to delivering high-quality highway schemes with a focus on safety, efficiency and innovation. As the business expands with a diverse skill set and opportunities, we are looking to welcome experienced Quantity Surveyors to join our existing team.
We are the highways services and maintenance provider of choice to both private and public sector clients across North Yorkshire and neighbouring areas. As a Quantity Surveyor for NY Highways, you will have the opportunity to work on a broad spectrum of projects including; highway surfacing, landslips, drainage, street scene schemes, junction improvements along with S278 and S38 works.
We are proud of our people and you will be joining a team with effective policies and processes in place, a team who work well together, support each other and work closely alongside NEC project managers to deliver the scale and volume of schemes and packages of works for a business with £70-£80m turnover.
“Bringing innovative solutions to the roads of North Yorkshire and beyond”
In this role you will be responsible for cost control and cost forecasting along with ensuring the schemes and projects are administered in line with NEC4 forms of contract. You will also be required to monitor and manage the use of contract programmes and risk registers, using your skills to forecast profitability and look at cost/budget/value comparisons. You will have a close working relationship with Project Managers and ensure that payment applications are assessed correctly and payment certificates are issued in a timely manner. Good communications skills will be required when interacting with Clients, Principal Contractors, Principal Designers and colleagues to ensure works are delivered to specification, on time and to budget.
The successful candidate will have experience in Quantity Surveying and will ideally have previously worked in a Highways setting. You could work from any of our offices in NY Highways depots across the county. With weekly visits to Northallerton and around the county you must have a full UK drivers’ licence with the ability to travel around the county.
To be successful in the role you will have the following:
· Qualification to HND standard or equivalent in Quantity Surveying (or other equivalent related discipline)
· Working towards or prepared to work towards professional membership of an appropriate organisation (for example, RICS/CIOB/ ICES)
· Holds an appropriate Construction Skills Certification Scheme card or prepared to obtain one.
· Awareness of good customer service principles and practice.
· Desire to understand customer and business needs and expectations and to establish long term relationships.
· Have the ability to work well within a team environment.
· Are able to create collaborative working relationships and effective partnerships.
· Experience of finding positive solutions to complex problems.
· Strong commitment to Health & Safety, Business Improvement, Quality and Environmental principles.

We’re currently looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join us. This role will allow you to become fully competent in commercially supervising or managing of Operational on site activities meeting all commercial, financial and quality obligations.
You will assist the commercial function of the business by effectively carrying out quantity surveying duties as directed by the Senior Commercial Officer or Quantity Surveyor as appropriate.
You will be able to work as part of a team with good communication skills as well as confident when using IT including MS Office, MS Outlook and MS Project. Travel around North Yorkshire to visit sites is a key part of this role so you must have a valid UK Driving Licence.
Your duties
· Profitability forecasts and cost/budget/value comparisons.
· Administration of contracts and / or subcontracts including payment mechanisms, change procedures, and resolution of contentious issues.
· Evaluation of change through analysis of rates or compensation methods, and agreement of the effects of change.
· Reconciliation of final costs against revenue.
· Assessment of financial performance through applying the quantity of work completed to arrive at cost and value reconciliation reporting
· Identify and interpret Key Performance and Result Measures
· Understand the use of allowances for adequate risk provision and reserve contingencies to ensure stable monthly financial reporting
· Preparation, maintenance and audit of suitable contemporary records of work progress
· Evaluation of recorded work through applying relevant financial assessment methods
· Understand the various uses of Bills of Quantities, Schedules of Rates, and Activity Schedules and their preparation in accordance with standard methods of measurement
· Understand the different risks associated with measurement and pricing carried out under re-measurement contracts, lump sum contracts and target cost/cost reimbursable contracts and design and construct contracts
· Preparation, presentation, negotiation and agreement of interim and final accounts, including re-measurement in accordance with a standard method of measurement

Senior Commercial Officer
NY Highways is seeking a dynamic Senior Commercial Officer to progress within our dedicated team. In this role, you will be pivotal in supporting projects through commercial activities, during both pre- and post-tender phases.

The Role
This role involves providing accurate and timely commercial reports and advice to the Head of Commercial, and Senior Management team. As Senior Commercial Officer you will provide commercial support and advice to the commercial teams, work with the Operations team to monitor contracts and reporting against commercial targets.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone driven by results and committed to ongoing career development, bringing your experience in delivering contracts and managing budgets to help us achieve our ambitious goals.
Key responsibilities include managing projects in line with NY Highways governance and policies, ensuring value for money through process improvement and resource allocation, and developing and maintaining strong working relationships with colleagues, suppliers, and customers. External Works Team, NY Highways
Project Coordinator/Site Manager
Contract: Permanent, Full-time, Countywide
Salary at 45 hours per week: £57,231 to £61,277 per year (Grade 10)
NY Highways are growing our External Works team. This is an opportunity to become part of the management team leading our site teams. You will be working on a diverse array of projects across North Yorkshire and the North East.
These works supplement the guaranteed work that NY Highways delivers on behalf of North Yorkshire Council. As a result, we can offer a confirmed, long-term and secure portfolio of works with the opportunity for career development.
As a member of the External Works management team, you will be part of a key team managing the delivery of projects.

About the Role:
As a Project Coordinator/Site Manager, you will utilise your operational management experience and site planning expertise across a variety of highway schemes in North Yorkshire. Your ability to supervise and coordinate projects, from planning to handover, will ensure the highest standards in quality, budget control, and safety compliance.
You will confidently develop work programmes, manage resources, and work closely with the Commercial Team to create efficient project schedules. Your keen attention to detail in reviewing project documents and developing risk registers will be crucial as you oversee both subcontractors and internal teams.
Strong communication skills will enable you to effectively liaise with clients, stakeholders, and third parties, fostering positive relationships and addressing complex issues with professionalism.
Your skills with numbers will be key to monitoring project costs and managing supply chains, ensuring projects are delivered on time.
Essential Criteria:
- Degree in Civil Engineering, or HNC, or NVQ4, or equivalent experience
- Proficiency in IT, particularly Microsoft Office
- Experience in Highways or Construction as a Site Engineer or equivalent
