Duties & Responsibilities:
- Diagnosing faults and completing repairs using modern diagnostic equipment.
- Servicing, inspections and routine maintenance on a range of vehicles.
- Preparing vehicles for MOT and brake testing.
- Ensure work is carried out in line with the workshop and H&S procedures.
- Work in line with NY Highways policies and procedures and be aware of the obligations for employees under these.
- Comply with health and safety policies, organisational statements and procedures.
What You’ll Bring:
- Class C licence.
- Level 3 qualification or equivalent mechanical experience.
- Diagnostic experience across multiple brands.
- Ability to work flexibly and get stuck in.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
While we work closely with North Yorkshire Council, NY Highways is an independent business and not part of the council itself.

What We’re Looking For
We’re keen to hear from experienced highways or construction professionals who:
- Have proven experience at Supervisor / Agent / Foreman / Manager level
- Bring strong leadership and people management skills
- Understand highways delivery, construction processes and safety standards
- Have knowledge of contracts (NEC, ICE, JCT) and CDM regulations
- Hold relevant qualifications (HNC, NVQ Level 4 or equivalent experience)
- Have Traffic Management knowledge (TM qualifications desirable)
- Are adaptable, resilient and comfortable working in a 24/7 operational environment

We are seeking a Highways Officer to join our Highways Operations team, helping to maintain and improve North Yorkshire's extensive highway network. This is an opportunity to play a key role in delivering essential services that support residents, businesses and visitors across the county.
About the role
As a Highways Officer, you will be responsible for managing and monitoring highway maintenance activities within the Richmond area, ensuring the network remains safe and serviceable for all users. Working closely with colleagues, contractors, local stakeholders and members of the public, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality highway maintenance services.
This is a varied role that combines technical knowledge, problem solving and stakeholder engagement, offering the chance to make a visible difference within local communities
Key responsibilities include:
· Managing highway inspections and ensuring compliance with required standards and service levels.
· Identifying and ordering maintenance works to address defects and maintain network safety.
· Liaising with contractors, local authorities, parish councils and members of the public on highway matters.

About you
We're looking for someone with:
· Experience working within highways maintenance, highways operations or a related service environment.
· Knowledge of highways legislation, inspection regimes and maintenance practices.
· Experience of planning, coordinating or monitoring highways works programmes.
· Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
· Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the confidence to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
· The ability to make sound decisions and exercise professional judgement in challenging situations.
· Good analytical skills and the ability to interpret information and identify solutions.
· A full driving licence and the ability to travel across North Yorkshire.
