NEC Project Manager
Salary: Grade 10. Starting from £50,871 (with pay award due in April)
Contract: Permanent, Full-time, 40 hours a week
Location: Northallerton with travel to sites across North Yorkshire

NY Highways is dedicated to delivering high-quality highway schemes with a focus on safety, efficiency, and innovation. As we continue to grow, we are looking to welcome experienced NEC Project Managers to join our Commercial team.
Based in Northallerton, with travel to sites across North Yorkshire, you will manage a variety of works packages. With £27m worth of schemes planned for 2025/26, these new additional posts are crucial to the successful delivery of these works and to contribute to our ongoing success.

In this role, you will work closely with Principal Contractors, Designers, Supervisors and Quantity Surveyors to manage the delivery of all NEC Contracts. Time management and organisation skills are essential to ensure all works are completed in a timely manner and meet all tender values and programmes in line with contractual procedures. Your eye for detail will enable you to review all contractual and payment documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance in accordance with the contract and budget management.
You will prepare and present accurate and complex monthly finances and progress of works packages to the Senior Leadership Team to highlight progress and costs. Using your analytical skills, you will be able to forecast a completion date and expected cost of projects in line with the contract obligations.
You will liaise with many internal and external stakeholders; therefore, excellent communication and negotiation skills are paramount to building strong, working relationships, and ensuring the successful and efficient delivery of works. You will lead your team by being present on site, by conducting regular visits to monitor progress and to identify and resolve any arising issues. The ability to work collaboratively and as a team player are also key for this role.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is already a NEC Project Manager, or an individual who is working within the construction industry with a strong knowledge of NEC 4 contracts who wants to take the next step in their career.
To be successful in the role you will have the following:
· Experience and knowledge of NEC 4 Contracts.
· Experience of delivering packages of works in excess of £1 million.
· Good knowledge and understanding of CDM roles and responsibilities.
· Extensive experience dealing with multi skilled, managerial and professional bodies.
· Good knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety legislation.
· Excellent knowledge and understanding of Bills of Quantities, Defined Costs, Activity schedules etc.
· Extensive understanding of budgets and spend profiles.

We’re recruiting a Highways Apprentice at our depot in Skipton. This is a great opportunity to learn on the job, with full support from your learning provider, experienced team members, and the wider business. You’ll get to develop your skills in all areas of highways maintenance while working towards a Level 2 qualification.
This two-year contract gives you the chance to experience something new every day. From rural landscapes to busy towns, you’ll be working in all sorts of environments in region. As part of a passionate team, you’ll be learning from some of the best in the business.
We’re looking for a good communicator, keen to learn, and ready to take on a variety of tasks. If you’re motivated, enthusiastic, and ready to grow in your career, this could be your perfect next step.
Your day-to-day tasks will vary, but typically include:
- Working safely at all times, following company policies and current regulations.
- Following instructions from the Ganger, Site Supervisor, or other responsible team members on site.
- Wearing the correct PPE and complying with safety rules.
- Fully attending and engaging with your college course and training.
- Applying the theory you learn in the classroom to real-world tasks on-site.
You’ll gain hands-on experience in carrying out repairs and improvements to a wide range of infrastructure, including:
- Laying modular paving, kerbs, bituminous macadam, concreting, pipe laying, hard and soft landscaping, and drainage repairs.
- You’ll also learn traffic management skills and take part in seasonal maintenance activities.
To be eligible, you’ll need GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 9* to 4 (A to C) in English and Maths and be 16 or older. If you don’t have these qualifications, you’ll need to achieve them and pass the Level 2 English and Maths test before your final assessment.
It’s essential to have, or be working towards, a full UK driving licence.
An Apprenticeship with NY Highways

Due to an internal promotion, NY Highways are looking for a Depot Supervisor to join our Boroughbridge depot to play an integral part in our operations, helping us to deliver the best service to our community.

Working hand-in-hand with management, you will maximise the efficiency of the depot, while ensuring the working environment is safe for all to operate in, as well as controlling stock movement and coordinating the depot’s traffic.
This role will provide vital support to the branch operations and will be depot based. You will follow health and safety procedures, supervising and assisting with various duties in conjunction with the loading and unloading of vehicles. You will also be able to work to deadline to ensure timely delivery of materials and associated equipment to meet our customers’ expectations. Working as a team player and the ability to work varying hours in all weathers will be key for this position.
Clear communication skills will help you with other responsibilities that include assisting with loading and unloading of vehicles, ensuring the yards are clean and organised at all times and clearly communicating ETAs, as well as missing or damaged items with colleagues.
You might be working as a Depot or Yard Supervisor already, or perhaps ex-military personnel looking for a new role with better work life balance, offering a new career and opportunities to learn and develop new skills.

To be successful in the role, you will have some of the following skills and experience:
- Valid UK Class 2 (Category C) Driving Licence with CPC.
- Ability to operate machinery including telehandler, forklift and/or loader
- Experience managing stock control and stock movement on a busy site
- Understanding and awareness of managing Health and Safety
- Good IT Skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of IMS (and compliance with ISO45001, 14001 and 9001)
