The Street Lighting team at NY Highways maintain over 52,000 street lights and 8,000 signs and bollards across the region. What We’re Looking For
We’re seeking candidates who bring technical expertise, a flexible mindset, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Ideally, you’ll have:
- BS7671/18th Edition qualification
- City & Guilds 2330 Level 3 and 714 Inspection & Testing
- Strong knowledge of electrical repairs, testing, and installations
- Understanding of current legislation and health & safety standards
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Willingness to take part in out-of-hours emergency callouts (rota basis)

NY Highways are looking for a Depot Supervisor for our Selby depot to play an integral part in our operations, helping us to deliver the best service to our community.

Working hand-in-hand with management, you will maximise the efficiency of the depot, while ensuring the working environment is safe for all to operate in, as well as controlling stock movement and coordinating the depot’s traffic.
This role will provide vital support to the branch operations and will be depot based. You will follow health and safety procedures, supervising and assisting with various duties in conjunction with the loading and unloading of vehicles. You will also be able to work to deadline to ensure timely delivery of materials and associated equipment to meet our customers’ expectations. Working as a team player and the ability to work varying hours in all weathers will be key for this position.
Clear communication skills will help you with other responsibilities that include assisting with loading and unloading of vehicles, ensuring the yards are clean and organised at all times and clearly communicating ETAs, as well as missing or damaged items with colleagues.

- Understanding and awareness of managing Health and Safety
- Good IT Skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Knowledge of IMS (and compliance with ISO45001, 14001 and 9001)

🚦 Electrician’s Assistant / Hiab Driver

Salary: From £32,433 - £34,191 per year

NY Highways is looking for a hardworking, hands on Electrician’s Assistant / Hiab Driver to join our Street Lighting team. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys outdoor work, practical tasks, and wants a varied role that offers far more than just driving.

⭐ What Makes This Role Different?
While you will use your LGV Class 2 and HIAB skills, a significant part of this role involves excavation and reinstatement work. 🔧 What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll help maintain over 52,000 street lights and 8,000 signs and bollards across North Yorkshire. Key responsibilities include:
Groundworks & Excavation (Major Focus of the Role)
- Carrying out manual excavation for lighting columns and connection pits
- Reinstating highways using asphalt, flags, block paving and other materials
- Ensuring reinstatements meet quality and safety standards
Driving & HIAB Operations
- Operating LGV Class 2 vehicles
- Using HIAB equipment to assist with lifting and installing street lighting columns
Supporting Electrical Installation
- Assisting electricians on-site with installation and maintenance tasks
- Helping create safe working environments, including traffic management and site safety
✅ What We’re Looking For
- A current LGV Class 2 licence (or higher)
- Experience with HIAB equipment — or willingness to be trained
- Someone who is physically fit, enjoys outdoor, active work and is comfortable with excavation
- A team player with a safety-first mindset
- Experience in highways, groundworks or street lighting is an advantage but not essential
