Unlike traditional primary schools, at Filey Junior School we adopted a ‘specialist teaching’ model a few years ago and we haven’t looked back since.
What this means in practice, is that our staff are only responsible for delivering one or two subjects of the curriculum to one year group. This allows more opportunities for teachers to teach what they are good at and what they enjoy; it greatly improves work-life balance (as there is only a need to plan for one or two subjects per day); and it allows for excellent CPD, moderation and continuity, as curriculum teams are able to meet and work together on a weekly basis.
In 2014, we became what we believe to be the first primary school in the country to introduce 1:1 Chromebooks. Since then we have become experts in this field and technology seamlessly links with traditional teaching and learning methods throughout the day.
We are a Google Reference School.

The post we have available is for a KS2 teacher. The year group and ‘specialism’ is to be decided based on the knowledge, experience and aspirations of the successful candidate. You will, of course, liaise closely with other staff, teaching other subjects within the year group and form close working practices with the rest of the Team within the school. This opportunity would be ideally suited to a candidate with some experience and looking to develop leadership of a curriculum area in the future.
