Our values of Safety, Excellence, Customer and Respect shape the way we work whilst focusing on delivering efficient, and right first-time highway services for North Yorkshire. Learn more about NY Highways

With a network spanning nearly 5,800 miles and a dedicated team of around 250 skilled professionals, NY Highways knows a thing or two about what it takes to keep roads safe, efficient, and resilient – all year round.

Launched in June 2021, NY Highways works in close partnership with North Yorkshire Council, delivering seamless, in-house highways services around North Yorkshire. While we maintain strong public sector ties, we operate as a commercial business, offering our services to both public and private clients across the region.

What we do

From everyday repairs to emergency responses, NY Highways delivers a wide range of essential services, including:

  • Road and pavement maintenance
  • Street lighting and traffic signal management
  • Winter gritting and severe weather response
  • Infrastructure improvement projects
  • Property maintenance on North Yorkshire Council buildings via our new Property department

Our work helps ensure that residents, businesses, and visitors can travel safely and efficiently around North Yorkshire — whatever the weather.

Our Achievements

Since NY Highways was established in 2021, we’re proud of the progress we’ve made as a business. These include:

  • Successfully running the winter maintenance contract for North Yorkshire Council every winter to keep the region’s roads moving through weather events.
  • Managing large highways schemes, with examples including the Transforming Cities Fund projects to improve transport links in Skipton, Selby and Harrogate. More examples are available on the NY Highways website at nyhighways.co.uk/case-studies
  • Launching a new Property maintenance department in 2025-2026, providing maintenance on North Yorkshire Council buildings.
  • Gaining accreditation to ISO standards 45001, 14001 & 9001 in 2023 – these Health & Safety, Environment and Quality accreditations are critical for future growth at NY Highways.
  • Achieving MOT status for our workshop in Northallerton, allowing us to maintain vehicles on behalf of members of the public.
