Welcome, and thank you for your interest in The Danesgate Community's Deputy Headteacher opportunity

Dear applicant,

Welcome, and on behalf of the Governors and members of the school community, l would like to thank you for taking an interest in the position of Deputy Headteacher for learning and achievement at The Danesgate Community. I hope that you will find the information provided a useful introduction to our unique school and that you will take the opportunity to apply for this enriching opportunity.

The Danesgate Community is a thriving community school located in York serving students aged 5 to 16 who have no mainstream school place within the City of York and the outlying area. All the students who attend here have additional needs of one kind or another. We aim to nurture and support every student to achieve their full potential. This includes their academic achievement, their life skills, social skills and emotional resilience. We endeavour to help students to return to mainstream education. Where this is not possible, we provide an education geared to helping them move on to further education and the world of work.

Following my promotion to Headteacher in April 2023, we are seeking to appoint a Deputy Head who will collaborate with me to build on the school’s many strengths and ensure we are a beacon school of excellence for students with SEND, ASC and PRU profiles. The students, staff, parents, governors and our community are proud of our school where we aspire for all children to ‘Strive, thrive, achieve’. In the changing educational environment, there are many exciting challenges ahead and the school has the benefit of a highly committed, experienced, and loyal team of staff, supportive parents, Headteacher and Governing Body to enable you, as the new Deputy Headteacher, to thrive.

We would encourage you to come and visit in advance of your application and see for yourself our vibrant community.  Such a visit is not part of the selection process, and whether applicants have visited will not influence the outcome.

For an informal, confidential conversation about the role and to arrange to speak about the role with me, please call Sarah Hunter on 07816 251271.

I hope you find the information provided useful and informative and that it will encourage you to apply. On behalf of the school and governing body, thank you again for your interest in The Danesgate Community.

Yours Faithfully,

Chris Nichols,
Headteacher
