Looking to work in a school that celebrates uniqueness, self-expression, acceptance, inclusion, and a love for learning?
A warm welcome to East Whitby Academy
What’s it like to work and study at East Whitby?
We encourage children to take ownership of and responsibility for their learning, so they have the confidence and curiosity to ask questions, solve problems and respond to quality feedback. Children are praised for hard work, determination and having a positive attitude. In order to create an inclusive school where everyone can flourish, whatever their background, we promote an ethos of respect and empathy, where diversity is valued and celebrated – both within school and the wider world. We aim to instil a lifelong love for learning and a strong grounding for future success.
We celebrate the unique strengths and talents of every pupil and staff member, encouraging everyone to use what makes them special to thrive and succeed. Staff and pupils feel like they truly belong. Our attitude is centred around each pupil and staff member being the best they can be and understanding that will look different for each and every person.
Along with academic success, personal development is at the heart of our school. Our school was featured on Channel 5 as part of “Neurodivergence: No Barriers”, to discuss our inclusivity.
East Whitby is a great place to work. Staff wellbeing isn’t a token gesture at East Whitby – taking care of each other is who we are. And, as part of the Enquire Learning Trust, we offer exceptional professional development opportunities and effective partnership working.
Our Facilities
We benefit from a spacious, modern building with state-of-the-art facilities including touch-screen projectors, an extensive library and an ‘Interactive Immersive Classroom’ which has to be seen to be believed! The outside grounds have a wealth of play equipment including a MUGA for PE and active play and lunch times.
Pegasus Class
East Whitby was a trailblazer by launching one of the first provisions of its kind in North Yorkshire. Our Pegasus Class was also the first specialist provision of any kind in Whitby and the local area.
The space provides an inclusive bespoke education model for up to 12 children to enable them to meet their own academic and social potential. It is an inclusive space specifically designed and equipped to support children with a range of Communication needs. This can include children with a diagnosis of autism, speech and language difficulties or children who present with challenges in their social interactions. The provision is needs led not diagnosis led. Each child has a personalised timetable and educational program both within their mainstream class and the Pegasus classroom.
