Thank you for your interest in Align Property Partners.

As the Managing Director, I am very proud of the achievements of the organisation to date, and I am very excited about its future prospects.

Align is multi-award-winning and is one of the largest multi-disciplinary organisations in the North of England - we provide a huge range of “one stop shop” architectural, design, consultancy and engineering solutions to a wide range of clients right across the public and private sector. Established in 2015 and owned by North Yorkshire Council, Align has grown substantially since its inception – we are now almost 5 times the size and still growing with a multi-million-pound turnover. This brand-new role is being created due to our ongoing expansion and represents a fantastic opportunity to join us as we seek to embark on the next phase of our exciting growth plans.

As Head of Architecture, you will be joining and leading the Architectural Team that work within the company’s multi-discipline workforce including Building Surveyors, Quantity Surveyors, Highways, Civil & Structural and M&E Engineers. You will manage the Architectural Team and act as a lead consultant on larger projects, overseeing a range of smaller commissions, liaising with the client and co-ordinating the design team. I am looking for an ambitious leader who will be responsible for project delivery management including project-related fees, appointments, expenditure and appointment of third parties, so it will be vital to have strong client liaison skills.

Align projects are very diverse and span various sectors including leisure, historic buildings, refurbishments, care homes, housing, education, public and community buildings, regeneration and public realm. Every day is different with projects across all RIBA Plan of Work stages, ranging in value from £50k to £20m and beyond - recent projects include The Seam, Barnsley and Whitby Maritime Training Hub.

As you can see, we are a unique organisation which combines the very best of cutting-edge high profile commercial design projects with all the advantages of working within a more secure public sector environment. Align is wholly owned by North Yorkshire Council and so provides a highly stable foundation from which to build your career – regardless of the ups and downs of the economic climate. Our awards are testimony to our teams and the quality of their work, and we have plenty more to do.

We are poised for even more significant future growth, and as Head of Architecture you will have considerable autonomy to lead others and enable you to make critical decisions at a strategic level. Our size means that you will have the ability to play an important role in the running and development of the organisation. You will not feel like a small cog in a big machine here – your voice will count and help to shape our future growth. With bases across the North of England, and with hybrid working this means you can enjoy a genuine work/ life balance whilst enjoying a cutting-edge career with fantastic prospects.

If this interesting and unique role sounds appealing, I would very much like to hear from you. I am confident that this role will provide an excellent platform for an ambitious individual as well as the opportunity to be part of an innovative, forward-thinking team.

Please liaise with our recruitment partners at The Resourcing Solution in the first instance. If you like the sound of what we do I would be delighted to meet with you for a coffee – I think you will be pleasantly surprised by what you hear.

Thank you and I look forward to receiving your application.

Background of Align and Relationship with North Yorkshire Council

Align Property Partners started trading in November 2015 and is a Teckal company, wholly owned by North Yorkshire Council and forms part of the wider commercial group of companies known as the Brierley Group. North Yorkshire Council is a little different to what some might view as a typical public sector organisation – it is commercially focussed and has multiple successful commercial trading businesses already which means that commercial acumen and success will thrive in this context. You will not be restricted by public sector policy.

Being Teckal compliant allows Align’s shareholders to award contracts directly without procurement. The main benefit of this arrangement is that it ensures a long term, ethical and stable business, with unrivalled potential for commercial growth. This means that Align is in a rather unique position and can deliver high quality services whilst seeking out commercial opportunities to provide shareholder value and being wholly owned by North Yorkshire Council ensures stability in what can sometimes be a volatile market.
