Colburn Community Primary School
Grade: M3 - UPS1 + TLR

Hours: Full time
Contract Type: Commencing January 2027

The Governors of Colburn Community Primary School are seeking to appoint an exceptional and passionate Early Years practitioner to help shape the next chapter of EYFS at Colburn.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly effective EYFS teacher who believes passionately in giving children the strongest possible start to their education. We are looking first and foremost for an excellent Early Years practitioner: someone who understands how young children learn and develop, knows what high-quality EYFS provision looks like, and can create an engaging, purposeful and nurturing learning environment.
Previous formal leadership experience is not essential. You may already be an EYFS leader, or you may be an excellent Nursery or Reception teacher who is ready to take the next step in your career. What matters most to us is your Early Years experience, expertise, passion and commitment. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the development of EYFS and will be supported by the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher to develop their leadership skills.
We are looking for someone who:
- Is an experienced, passionate and highly effective EYFS practitioner with a strong understanding of child development and how young children learn
- Has a strong practical understanding of the EYFS, including high-quality continuous provision, purposeful play, adult interactions and the balance between adult-led and child-initiated learning
- Can create an exciting, language-rich and purposeful indoor and outdoor learning environment that promotes independence, curiosity and high expectations
- Is reflective, ambitious and committed to continually improving provision and outcomes for all children, including those with SEND and those who may be disadvantaged
We can offer:
- The opportunity to play a key role in shaping and developing our Early Years provision
- Friendly, enthusiastic children who are eager to learn
- A supportive, welcoming and committed staff team, with support from senior leaders as you develop the EYFS
- A well-resourced learning environment with the opportunity to influence its continued development
- High-quality professional development, ongoing CPD and opportunities for career progression
Applicants are encouraged to read the person specification carefully. We are particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate strong and successful EYFS practice; previous formal leadership experience is not essential.
We warmly encourage prospective applicants to visit us. Come and meet our children and staff, see our Early Years environment and talk to us about our ambitions for EYFS and the important part the successful candidate will play in its development.
To arrange a visit, please contact the school office on 01748 832676 or email admin@colburn.n-yorks.sch.uk.
Further information is also available on the school website, and candidates are welcome to speak with a member of the Senior Leadership Team.
