About us
We are a “Nurturing School.” Set in over 20 acres of stunning countryside, Welburn Hall School is situated in the market town of Kirkbymoorside; nestled on the edge of the North York Moors National Park.
Our spacious grounds and main building, The House allow us to offer wonderful facilities and activities, such as equine therapy, horse riding, animal care on our Farm, gardening, and a state of the art sensory, light and I-Muse room.
A North Yorkshire Council maintained special school, we have a strong reputation for excellence. We teach learners aged 8-19 years, with a wide range of moderate and severe learning difficulties. Welburn Hall also boasts a vibrant and successful 6th Form College, catering for young people between the ages of 16 and 19. We specialise in Communication and Interaction.

Our Opportunity
Do you enjoy the challenge of teaching children and young people who have special educational needs? Do you have passion, enthusiasm and expertise to teach children and young people to reach their potential?
We are looking for a wonderful teacher for our Key Stage 3 or 4 groups. These classes consist of 8-10 pupils with diverse needs, including Autism and Moderate Learning Difficulties. You will be supported by teaching assistants to help you deliver engaging and effective lessons tailored to these students.
Curriculum
We offer a therapeutic curriculum which is focused on supporting the individual learning journey of each pupil, celebrating their strengths. Pupils are grouped in a “stage not age” model. We have Pre-Formal, Semi-Formal and Formal Learners.
Our core Key Stage 3/4 curriculum covers maths, English, science, computing, and humanities, plus performing arts and music to develop confidence, and food tech as part of supporting independence. Personalised development is a major part of the curriculum at Welburn Hall.
Independent living skills are an essential part of personal development, ensuring pupils feel confident in their communities and enhance self-esteem.
This is an ideal opportunity for candidates looking to ‘test the waters’ of working in a special school.
You will have the enthusiasm and resilience to work with children and young people who have a wide variety of needs including:
- Autistic spectrum disorder
- Moderate and severe learning difficulties
- Speech, language and communication
Skills & Qualifications
- The ability to cater for the different learning styles of pupils with a range of learning difficulties
- You will be a very good classroom practitioner who consistently makes learning memorable, impacting on all students to make good progress
- Qualified Teacher Status
- The ability to teach more than one subject and demonstrate a proven successful track record in a comparable SEND setting, will be advantageous
- Primary or Secondary trained candidates may apply; this includes those teachers that are specialists in their subject matter
