About Masham CE Primary School

Learning & Caring Together

Nestled in the charming village market town of Masham, lies our wonderful school. Steeped in history, our school building was originally a Tudor grammar school and is now the heart of the local community. Masham CE Primary School is a perfect example of a village school, calm yet also full of character and community spirit.

We have around 62 pupils on roll and three classes; the Swinney Class is named after Swinney Beck, the smallest tributary to the River Ure, Swinney Class is made up of our Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils, our Burn Class is made up of Year 3 and Year 4 children, and our Cover Class is made up of our oldest children in Year 5 and 6. Our school is supported by a team of teaching assistants who support as needed.

Being a village school in a market town surrounded by lush greenery, historical sites and tourist attractions, has allowed us to have plenty of space for outdoor learning and school trip locations on our doorstep for curriculum enrichment. We have a large playground to the rear of the school and steps that lead down to the recreation ground, which is used for sports. For our bespoke outdoor learning curriculum, we have use of Malcom’s Meadow on Millgate. We also have a new outdoor area that is ready to be opened soon!

Our school is currently in a transformative process as we are soon to be joining Yorkshire Causeway Academy Trust, and we are on a positive trajectory of improvement.

At Masham, we want everyone to flourish. We cherish our values as we promote the flourishing of all.

Our Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Teacher to help lead our school. You will be a key figure, being an additional pillar of support and will also be able to act a leader in the absence of the Headteacher.

We have a supportive, collaborative working dynamic and we anticipate this will develop even further once we join our new Trust. As part of our transformative journey, we place key importance on staff development and support. Key areas of ongoing training include SEND, Maths, and Retrieval Practice.

We anticipate that you will be assigned to our Y5/Y6 Class which will have around 20 pupils on roll. However, we can accommodate teachers with experience in other year groups. Our smaller than average school size and class size makes this role ideal for entering the world of middle leadership and this one-year opportunity is perfect for experienced class teachers looking to expand their duties and progress in their career.

  • Someone who has the drive and ambition to make sure our children achieve their very best, and promotes academic excellence
  • An established teacher with a flair and passion for primary education who will embrace working and teaching in our school
  • A professional with senior leadership skills or aspirations to develop these, who can contribute and lead on school development initiatives
  • A highly-organised individual who is able to manage the day-to-day operation running of a small school, balanced with their own teaching commitment, in the absence of the Headteacher
  • Someone who will embrace our nurture principles and a nurturing approach to supporting children with a range of needs
  • The ability to act as the deputy designated safeguarding lead
  • A leader who can support the development of subjects/initiatives across their own school and others
