Align Property Partners - Senior Principal Estates Surveyor
Salary: Competitive, 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, company pension, and other benefits including flexible working
Location: Northallerton or Durham
Welcome letter from Mark Hall
Thank you for your interest in joining Align Property Partners.
As Operations Director, I am very proud of everything Align has achieved so far, but I am equally excited about what comes next.
Align is a multi-award-winning, multidisciplinary property and infrastructure consultancy. We provide architectural, design, engineering, estates, commercial agency and wider consultancy services to clients across the public and private sectors.
Established in 2015 and wholly owned by North Yorkshire Council, Align has grown considerably – almost six times the size – and is now one of the largest multidisciplinary consultancies in the North of England, with a multi-million pound turnover. We are only continuing to expand, with this new role reflecting that growth and representing an exciting opportunity to join us, as we embark on the next phase in our growth plan.
As our Senior Principal Surveyor, you will support the Technical Director of Estates in providing strategic leadership across our Estates services being provided for our national UK clients. You will help to set professional standards, guide technical assurance and create the conditions for the team to deliver high-quality and compliant work. This role focuses on shaping our service, developing our people, and strengthening client relationships, while overseeing project delivery at a strategic level and contributing to the continued growth and success of Align.
Our Estates team supports a wide client base that includes local authorities, police and fire services, housing organisations, central government bodies, the NHS and private-sector clients. Clients include North Yorkshire Council, Lincolnshire County Council, Nottinghamshire County Council, Kirklees Council, Middlesbrough Council, North Lincolnshire Council, Westmorland and Furness Council, Bury Council, Darlington Borough Council, Milton Keynes City Council, Three Rivers District Council, Chorley Council, South Ribble Borough Council and Melton Borough Council. The team also supports Nottinghamshire Police, Lincolnshire Police, Durham Fire and Rescue Service and the North York Moors National Park Authority. Along with Believe Housing, Broadacres Housing Association, ARC Partnership and Local Partnerships.
The team works across diverse property portfolios, including offices, schools, care facilities, community buildings, emergency service premises, commercial property, operational sites and development land.
The team is made up of 15 chartered surveyors, two surveyors, a graduate surveyor and an apprentice.
This breadth of work creates a genuinely interesting leadership opportunity. You will be joining an established professional team, while having the scope to influence how our services develop, support colleagues in building their careers and help us strengthen our relationships with clients across the UK.
Align offers a distinctive combination. We undertake ambitious, high-profile projects while retaining the stability and public-service values that come from being wholly owned by North Yorkshire Council. Our awards reflect the quality and commitment of our people, but we still have plenty that we want to achieve.
As Align continues to grow, you will have considerable autonomy and the opportunity to make important decisions at a strategic level. Our size means that you can make a visible contribution to the organisation and help shape its future. You will not feel like a small part of a large corporate structure. Your experience, judgement and ideas will be valued.
With offices across the North of England and flexible hybrid working arrangements, we can also offer a genuine working life balance, alongside a varied and progressive career.
If this opportunity appeals to you, I would be very pleased to hear from you. I believe the role offers an excellent platform for an ambitious surveyor who wants to lead people, influence the growth of a service and be part of a forward looking multidisciplinary consultancy.
Please contact our recruitment partners at The Resourcing Solution in the first instance. If you like what you hear, I would be delighted to meet you for a coffee and tell you more about Align, the team and our plans for the future.
Thank you for your interest. I look forward to receiving your application.
Kind regards,
Mark Hall

Background of Align and Relationship with North Yorkshire Council
Align Property Partners started trading in November 2015 and is a Teckal company, wholly owned by North Yorkshire Council and forms part of the wider commercial group of companies known as the Brierley Group. North Yorkshire Council is a little different to what some might view as a typical public sector organisation – it is commercially focussed and has multiple successful commercial trading businesses already which means that commercial acumen and success will thrive in this context. You will not be restricted by public sector policy.
Being Teckal compliant allows Align’s shareholders to award contracts directly without procurement. The main benefit of this arrangement is that it ensures a long term, ethical and stable business, with unrivalled potential for commercial growth. This means that Align is in a rather unique position and can deliver high quality services whilst seeking out commercial opportunities to provide shareholder value and being wholly owned by North Yorkshire Council ensures stability in what can sometimes be a volatile market.
