The Opportunity

As a Graduate AI & Automation Analyst, working closely with our colleagues the Technology and Change team at North Yorkshire Council and our department leads, you’ll support the identification, testing and rollout of AI tools, internal agents and automated workflows that deliver real business value. This is a development role, designed to help you build capability through practical experimentation, guided delivery and collaboration with experienced professionals, external specialists and our AI working group.

You’ll focus on how AI can be used responsibly and effectively in a professional services environment, helping teams reduce repetitive tasks, improve quality and make better use of knowledge and data to improve the service and project delivery for all our clients.

The type of early work you may be involved in is helping to build internal AI tools that support quality assurance of technical documents, structure photographic and survey evidence into draft outputs for review, compare contractor quotations against agreed schedules or benchmarks, and identify inconsistencies or omissions in project information so these can be checked by qualified staff.

What You’ll Be Doing

Working with department heads to understand current processes and identify opportunities for AI and automation

We’re looking for a proactive and experienced Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our growing team in Cumbria. Working closely with our Technical Director, and Associate Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of Mechanical design and management on a wide variety of construction and maintenance projects.

What You’ll be Doing

The Cumbria team continues to deliver a dynamic and meaningful programme of work, with recent success marked by the completion of the Maryport Activity Centre refurbishment as part of a wider regeneration initiative with Cumberland Council. Building on this momentum, the team is now preparing tenders for several local projects aimed at enhancing the area for both residents and visitors. What Our Team Has Been Working On

Our Building Services team has recently delivered a series of rapid‑response mechanical and electrical projects for Durham County Council, supporting their drive toward net‑zero carbon and improved building performance. Working across a diverse estate of schools, leisure facilities, libraries, and community buildings, we’ve managed everything from early‑stage feasibility studies to major electrical and mechanical upgrades.

Through the NEPO Mechanical and Electrical Framework, the team successfully delivered ten projects, including schemes at Consett Branch Library, Coxhoe Active Life, Copeland Road Primary School, Shotton Primary Swimming Pool, Delves Lane Primary, Villa Real School, and Rookhope Primary. These projects involved integrating renewable and energy‑efficient technologies such as solar PV, air source heat pumps, low‑energy lighting, fire alarm upgrades, and modernised heating and electrical systems which were all completed with minimal disruption to essential services.

Every commission was delivered on time and to a high standard, improving building usability, reducing energy consumption, and directly supporting the council’s sustainability objectives. Our Structures team is working on a diverse and exciting mix of projects across the region, from new‑build care homes in North Yorkshire to the high‑profile Catterick Levelling Up Fund development, alongside residential programmes for Rotherham Council. We also support local clients through condition surveys, major roof replacements, conservation‑led projects, and education schemes such as Melsonby Primary School. As a Principal Engineer, you’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive team where your experience will help guide projects, mentor others, and play a key role in shaping both our work and our people as the team continues to grow.

What You’ll be Doing

Lead the delivery of structural engineering projects from feasibility through to completion
Work collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure projects are delivered efficiently, on time, and within budget
Apply your significant engineering experience in day‑to‑day project work, technical decision‑making, and problem solving
Oversee and review designs, ensuring quality, compliance, and best practice throughout all stages
Monitor project resources and finances to support successful, well‑managed delivery
Provide leadership and direction that inspires, supports, and develops a high‑performing team
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, helping the team consistently meet and exceed targets

What We’re Looking for

A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent), with substantial post‑qualification experience gained within an engineering design consultancy
Chartered Engineer status (IStructE or ICE), or actively working towards chartership
Proven experience managing the delivery of multiple projects and supporting the development of others
Strong knowledge of relevant UK standards, Eurocodes, design guidance, and Building Regulations
Experience coordinating detailed designs and specifications using first‑principles calculations and software such as AutoCAD, Tedds, Tekla Structural Designer, or similar
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with colleagues, clients, and external consultants
Proficiency in undertaking structural condition surveys and preparing clear, professional reports
Demonstrated capability in both conceptual and detailed structural design across new‑build projects, refurbishments, and extensive survey‑led schemes, using a range of structural materials
A good understanding of project programmes, commercial awareness, and budget constraints
Confident IT skills, including the use of Microsoft Office packages
A full UK driving licence

We are growing the team in our new Durham office and there is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our multi-discipline workforce.

You will be part of the Engineering team, playing an important part in the work we do, overseeing building schemes and working collaboratively with other disciplines efficiently and effectively. You will use your engineering knowledge and experience to take on important elements of design on the various projects Align works on from schools and public buildings to refurbishments and new homes.

Our Civils team is currently delivering a diverse portfolio of challenging and rewarding projects across the region. This includes a full septic tank replacement scheme at Watchtree Nature Reserve in Carlisle, taking designs from feasibility through to construction support within a sensitive rural environment. We’re leading highway and drainage design for a major infrastructure project at Selby Train Station, integrating SuDS features and coordinating works in a complex rail-adjacent setting. In Hambleton, the team is undertaking full estate road and drainage design for a 100+ unit residential development, including SuDS strategy and Section 38/104 processes with close liaison with the Local Authority and statutory undertakers. We’re also supporting a fast-paced commercial scheme in Easingwold, providing comprehensive civil engineering design for a new supermarket and petrol filling station covering levels, drainage, highways interfaces, earthworks and multi-disciplinary coordination.

To be successful in this position, you will:

Hold a degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent with significant post-qualification experience
Be a Chartered Engineer as a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or currently working towards chartership.
Be skilled in preparing detailed designs and specifications using PDS and/or Civils 3D, AutoCAD, Micro-Drainage/Flow etc
Demonstrate competency in the conceptual and detailed design of infrastructure projects, including earthworks, roads and drainage
Have a working knowledge of relevant UK standards, adoptable standards and building regulations
Be IT proficient, including the use of Microsoft packages

Hold a full UK driving license

We are looking for a Chartered Principal Bridge Engineer to join us at Align Property Services where you will support in leading our growing team of Bridge Engineers and Technicians.

As a Principal Bridge Engineer, you will lead on project delivery and work on a variety of schemes collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure they are both cost and time efficient. You will use your significant engineering experience in your day-to-day workload as well as continuing and developing projects, and you will oversee designs from feasibility to completion, whilst monitoring resources and finances.

You will demonstrate initiative and leadership skills to positively inspire a successful team, who have a record of consistently meeting and exceeding their targets and are passionate in their determination to improve their service continually.

Your specialist engineering knowledge and experience will allow you to mentor the team and support the Technical Director in the appraisal, inspection, assessment, and design of bridge structures. You will provide detailed designs, from preliminary to final stage including outline cost estimates

You will play a key role in delivering a diverse and challenging portfolio of bridge and structural projects. Your responsibilities will include undertaking general and principal Inspections, carrying out structural assessments across a range of bridge types, from small spans to multi-span masonry arches, steel composite decks, and box culverts.

Be a Chartered Engineer and have a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent) with substantial post-qualification experience as a Chartered Engineer.

Innovative and creative delivery of services
Experience of managing/providing supervision to staff
Good interpersonal skills.

Excellent communication and presentational skills (written and verbal).
Have experience in leading multiple small to large sized projects and undertaking concept and detailed design reviews.

Proficient in the use of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW).
An understanding and appreciation for project programmes and budget constraints
Be IT proficient, including the use of Microsoft packages
Proficient in the use of Eurocodes and British Standards for the design and assessment of bridges and civil structures.
Conversant with analysis and design software packages, such as STAAD, MIDAS, LUSAS, Autodesk SBD etc.
