- Substantial experience within an engineering consultancy or highway management organisation
- A sound knowledge and experience of managing construction contracts in the roles of NEC Project Manager and NEC Supervisor preferably qualified with NEC3 or NEC4 Project Manager Accreditation
- The ability to lead and direct early career staff or oversee packages of work
- It would also be desirable to have gained Professional registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng), Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards this status.

Building Services Engineering

We’re looking for a proactive and experienced Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join our growing team in Cumbria. Working closely with our Technical Director, and Associate Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of Mechanical design and management on a wide variety of construction and maintenance projects.
What You’ll be Doing
The Cumbria team continues to deliver a dynamic and meaningful programme of work, with recent success marked by the completion of the Maryport Activity Centre refurbishment as part of a wider regeneration initiative with Cumberland Council. Building on this momentum, the team is now preparing tenders for several local projects aimed at enhancing the area for both residents and visitors. Meanwhile, our dedicated M&E team is managing £6M worth of planned Fabric and M&E maintenance across Westmorland and Furness Council’s corporate and educational estates, ensuring essential infrastructure is maintained to the highest standards.
On site, progress is underway on a vibrant café and community hub on Walney Island, the refurbishment of the Coroner’s Court in Workington, and a fresh office space for Cumbria Youth Alliance.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Retrofit Coordinator to join our Sustainability team at Align Property Services.
You will join a team of Retrofit Coordinators, Assessors and Designers to coordinate domestic retrofit programmes delivered to PAS 2035, improving homes across North Yorkshire. You will help shape solutions that are practical, compliant and deliver measurable benefits for residents and clients.
Importantly, our retrofit work is not dependent on ECO funding. We have secured Warm Homes funding and, as a company wholly owned by North Yorkshire Council, we are an established route for delivering retrofit work funded through allocations made to local authorities, such as Warm Homes projects. This provides a stable, long-term pipeline of work. This role is ideal for Retrofit Coordinators who may currently be working on ECO-funded schemes and are looking for a more secure future as ECO winds down.
We are dynamic and diverse in our approach to projects, from valuing small gardens to multi-million-pound listed structures including schools, fire stations, care homes and other public and commercial buildings across the UK.
As a Retrofit Coordinator
You will draw on your knowledge of PAS 2035 retrofit coordination to oversee the end-to-end process across multiple properties and programmes. Working with Assessors and Designers, you will coordinate energy modelling evidence (e.g. RdSAP/SAP), ensure robust documentation, manage TrustMark lodgement and help deliver outcomes across grant funded schemes.
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Be a qualified Retrofit Coordinator (e.g. Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination & Risk Management) with minimum 1 year’s experience coordinating domestic retrofit (social housing experience advantageous).
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of PAS 2035 and awareness of PAS 2030 requirements.
- Be comfortable coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and suppliers, managing concurrent schemes and deadlines.
- Have experience with TrustMark lodgement and maintaining audit-ready documentation.
- Hold a full UK driving licence and be able to travel when required.
- Retrofit Assessor accreditation/experience (e.g. DEA/Level 3 Domestic Retrofit Assessment) – desirable.

We are looking for a Chartered Principal Bridge Engineer to join us at Align Property Services where you will support in leading our growing team of Bridge Engineers and Technicians.
As a Principal Bridge Engineer, you will lead on project delivery and work on a variety of schemes collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure they are both cost and time efficient. You will use your significant engineering experience in your day-to-day workload as well as continuing and developing projects, and you will oversee designs from feasibility to completion, whilst monitoring resources and finances.
You will demonstrate initiative and leadership skills to positively inspire a successful team, who have a record of consistently meeting and exceeding their targets and are passionate in their determination to improve their service continually.
Your specialist engineering knowledge and experience will allow you to mentor the team and support the Technical Director in the appraisal, inspection, assessment, and design of bridge structures. You will provide detailed designs, from preliminary to final stage including outline cost estimates
You will play a key role in delivering a diverse and challenging portfolio of bridge and structural projects. Your responsibilities will include undertaking general and principal Inspections, carrying out structural assessments across a range of bridge types, from small spans to multi-span masonry arches, steel composite decks, and box culverts.

To be successful in this position, you will be able to demonstrate the following essential skills and qualifications:
- Be a Chartered Engineer and have a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent) with substantial post-qualification experience as a Chartered Engineer.
- Experience of working within a similar role in a multi discipline design consultancy environment; providing the technical lead to projects and teams outside of direct line management
- Innovative and creative delivery of services
- Experience of managing/providing supervision to staff
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage pressure effectively and cope well with problems / issues encountered.
- Able to work both as part of a team and individually.
- Excellent communication and presentational skills (written and verbal).
- Have experience in leading multiple small to large sized projects and undertaking concept and detailed design reviews.
- Proficient in the use of Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW).
- An understanding and appreciation for project programmes and budget constraints
- Be IT proficient, including the use of Microsoft packages
- Proficient in the use of Eurocodes and British Standards for the design and assessment of bridges and civil structures.
- Conversant with analysis and design software packages, such as STAAD, MIDAS, LUSAS, Autodesk SBD etc.

We’re also supporting Vico Homes with condition surveys and a major roof replacement project, delivering a sensitive conservation scheme with North Yorkshire Council, and leading the re-roofing works at Melsonby Primary School. As a Principal Structural Engineer, you’ll play a key role in guiding these projects and shaping the success of our growing team.
To be successful in this position, you will:
- Hold a Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent with a substantial amount of understanding and broad post-qualification experience within an engineering design consultancy.
- Be a Chartered Engineer as a member of the Institution of Structural Engineers or the Institution of Civil Engineers or currently working towards chartership.

We are growing our team in our new Durham office and in Northallerton or Otley and there is an exciting opportunity for two Senior Structural Engineers to join our multi-discipline workforce.
Your knowledge and expertise will enable you to produce practical, cost-effective, and sustainable structural and foundation designs appropriate to RIBA staged delivery, covering all phases from briefing and concept stages through to detailed technical design. The role also involves providing construction stage support by responding to RFIs and TQs, reviewing fabricator's designs and detailed drawings, and conducting site visits to resolve any emerging structural issues.

Are you a Civil Engineer who is looking to take the next step in their career?
We are growing the team in our new Durham office and there is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Civil Engineer to join our multi-discipline workforce.
You will be part of the Engineering team, playing an important part in the work we do, overseeing building schemes and working collaboratively with other disciplines efficiently and effectively. You will use your engineering knowledge and experience to take on important elements of design on the various projects Align works on from schools and public buildings to refurbishments and new homes.
Our Civils team is currently delivering a diverse portfolio of challenging and rewarding projects across the region. This includes a full septic tank replacement scheme at Watchtree Nature Reserve in Carlisle, taking designs from feasibility through to construction support within a sensitive rural environment. We’re leading highway and drainage design for a major infrastructure project at Selby Train Station, integrating SuDS features and coordinating works in a complex rail-adjacent setting. In Hambleton, the team is undertaking full estate road and drainage design for a 100+ unit residential development, including SuDS strategy and Section 38/104 processes with close liaison with the Local Authority and statutory undertakers. We’re also supporting a fast-paced commercial scheme in Easingwold, providing comprehensive civil engineering design for a new supermarket and petrol filling station covering levels, drainage, highways interfaces, earthworks and multi-disciplinary coordination.
To be successful in this position, you will:
- Hold a degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or equivalent with significant post-qualification experience
- Be a Chartered Engineer as a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers or currently working towards chartership.
- Be skilled in preparing detailed designs and specifications using PDS and/or Civils 3D, AutoCAD, Micro-Drainage/Flow etc
