To be successful in this position, you will:
- Ideally be a chartered or near chartered engineer.
- Have previous geotechnical design experience at engineer level.
- Demonstrate detailed knowledge of geology and the importance of ground modelling.
- Have experience in settlement and bearing capacity calculations (handwritten and excel format).
- Be experienced in retaining wall, soil nail/rock anchor and active and passive netting design.
- Be proficient in production of scheme design geotechnical drawings, including general arrangement, elevation and standard detail drawings and geotechnical design risk registers.
- Demonstrate a good working knowledge of Eurocodes and other standards.
- Be competent in the management of complex programmes, internal interfaces and budgets of high risk multi-discipline projects
- Have knowledge and experience in the use of ACAD.
- Be familiar with ground investigation procurement and management (including ground investigation design and specification to ICE standard)
- Demonstrate knowledge and experience of the geotechnical aspects of civil engineering, design and construction.

They've also developed a compelling business case for a new mobility hub, reviewed more than 30 planning applications on behalf of the Local Highway Authority, and produced high-quality transport documentation to support a range of planning proposals. What you’ll be doing

We are looking for a Chartered Principal Bridge Engineer to join us at Align Property Services where you will support in leading our growing team of Bridge Engineers and Technicians.
As a Principal Bridge Engineer, you will lead on project delivery and work on a variety of schemes collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure they are both cost and time efficient. You will use your significant engineering experience in your day-to-day workload as well as continuing and developing projects, and you will oversee designs from feasibility to completion, whilst monitoring resources and finances.
You will demonstrate initiative and leadership skills to positively inspire a successful team, who have a record of consistently meeting and exceeding their targets and are passionate in their determination to improve their service continually.
Your specialist engineering knowledge and experience will allow you to mentor the team and support the Technical Director in the appraisal, inspection, assessment, and design of bridge structures. You will provide detailed designs, from preliminary to final stage including outline cost estimates
You will play a key role in delivering a diverse and challenging portfolio of bridge and structural projects. Your responsibilities will include undertaking general and principal Inspections, carrying out structural assessments across a range of bridge types, from small spans to multi-span masonry arches, steel composite decks, and box culverts. You’ll contribute to feasibility studies such as those recently completed on the Selby Town Swing Bridge re-decking and the Whitby Cliff Lift scheme, both of which are expected to lead to further design and construction work.
The role also involves leading bridge replacement schemes, overseeing the development of a new access bridge for proposed new housing development and new footbridge for private client (currently at fee proposal stage). Additionally, you’ll be involved in various masonry arch strengthening schemes and the assessment and refurbishment of a unique chain link suspension footbridge at Grosmont.

The role also involves providing construction stage support by responding to RFIs and TQs, reviewing fabricator's designs and detailed drawings, and conducting site visits to resolve any emerging structural issues.
To be successful in this position, you will:
- Hold a Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent with a substantial amount of understanding and broad post-qualification experience within an engineering design consultancy.
- Be a Chartered Engineer as a member of the Institution of Structural Engineers or the Institution of Civil Engineers or currently working towards chartership.

Looking to the future
When thinking about the future of Align Property Partners the following words come to mind: expansion, strength and excellence. We have already made significant progress in expanding our client base having recently opened offices in Cumbria and West Yorkshire. We are now looking to expand our services into South Yorkshire, along with a view to moving into Lancashire and beyond to realise our ambition to be the leading multi-design business in the North of England.
We are in the fortunate position of having a large number of public and private sector clients; these strong partnerships provide a stable platform to develop our company and grow our reputation. Although we are very much a stand-alone commercial organisation, the financial stability from our public sector contracts and public sector share-holder provides us with the resource to invest in ambitious growth.

Our focus
Our focus now lies on realising the opportunity our unique position in the market provides us: achieving ambitious growth, continuing to develop our reputation and linking with new clients, and sectors such as LZC (Low or zero Carbon) sustainable solutions, delivering innovative client centred design solutions to expand our service offer.
The Seam, Barnsley – A transformative public realm project creating a new landscaped gateway from the train station. Align is providing technical advisory and project management services for Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council, with construction now underway.
Whitby Maritime Training Hub – A multi-million-pound development designed to boost the local economy and job market. Align is delivering project management and contract administration services, with completion expected in April 2026.
