St Mary’s is a small, family focused school with a strong Christian ethos. Our children are valued, happy, well behaved and enjoy learning. Rated as Outstanding by Ofsted and SIAMS, we are committed to continuous improvement and maintaining a broad and creative curriculum.

Governors wish to appoint an inspirational and innovative Headteacher who will nurture, guide and motivate our children and staff to reach their full potential while actively promoting and upholding our Christian values. There will be many exciting challenges ahead and we are seeking a passionate leader who has the vision and skills to lead the school forward. On this journey, you will be supported by experienced and loyal staff. In addition, you will also benefit from good relationships with parents/carers, dedicated Governing Body, Diocese and Local Authority.

The Christian ethos at St. Mary’s is of central importance to its stakeholders and so we are seeking a Headteacher who will effectively promote and uphold these values.

Rated as Outstanding by Ofsted (2011) and by SIAMS (2016), we are a thriving Church of England school located to the south west of York with 106 children on roll.

Based on our core values of Compassion, Friendship, Koinonia and Trust, we aim to provide an environment for all members of our school community where positive attitudes to learning and creativity are promoted and valued within the context of Christian belief and practice. We have strong links to the Pathfinder Teaching School Alliance; our current Headteacher being a member of its Headteacher board. We also form part of both the South Bank Cluster and Small Schools Cluster. In addition, we are active in the community and benefit from good relationships with parents, the local authority, the Diocese of York and our local church.

As an effective leader and communicator, your role will be to inspire and influence children, staff and stakeholders while developing and promoting our Christian values. As well as assuming responsibility for all aspects of school life, you will also direct the strategic plan, lead the development of the curriculum and deliver an outstanding provision which meets the needs of all our children.

A creative thinker with high expectations for all, you must be able to demonstrate well-developed leadership skills, a talent for motivating others and the expertise to effectively manage the budget. Initially, you would have a teaching commitment of 0.2fte, though the intention is to remove this commitment in the short to medium term.
