Participant Information

The York and North Yorkshire LEAP Programme aims to give people who are economically inactive the opportunity to gain part time employment with a local employer. It aims to give people the chance find employment, get back into work after a period of not working, gain confidence and learn new skills.
People who are currently economically inactive due to health and well being reasons, are eligible. You must live in either York or North Yorkshire. LEAP is open to anyone aged 18 and over, you must be prepared to confirm that you are currently economically inactive.
The job role will be 16 hours per week for a 3-month period. You will be employed on a fixed term contract (this means you are guaranteed work for a continuous 3 months).
The job will be for a 3-month period, but if it is going well your employer may wish to extend your employment for a longer period – they will talk to you about this and see if it is something you would like to continue.
YES, it is paid work. You will be paid at least £12.21 per hour. The work is 16 hours per week so your weekly pay will be at least £195.36/week (approximately £848/month gross). Depending on your personal circumstances you may have statutory deductions made from this amount, please seek further info from Universal Credit: How your wages affect your payments - GOV.UK
If you wish to participate, we will talk to you about your preferred work, the area(s) you are able to travel to for work and reasonable adjustments you may need to support you into and during work. We will seek to find an employer that suits your preferences. We might not be able to find your exact ‘match’, but we will present alternative jobs to you to consider, but you don’t have to take them if they don’t suit your needs. There is no guarantee that we will find a job that suits your preferences and is within your travelling range, the more open you are to the type of work you do, the more chance we have of finding you a job.
All employers that offer jobs will know and understand that they are offering jobs as part of this scheme, so they will be prepared to offer you support into the role and make any reasonable adjustments.
We will talk you through the job and the tasks the work involves. If its something you’d like to try we will arrange a time for you to go meet the employer at their workplace (we can accompany you if you want). This will be the Meet & Greet Meeting. They will ask you some questions so that they can be satisfied that your interest and skills match their job, you can ask them questions too. After the Meet & Greet, we will contact both you and the employer to see if you both want to continue. If both parties want to continue, you will need to complete an Employer sign up form and the employer will be in touch to arrange a start date.
We will talk to you about the support you may need to either attend the Meet & Greet and/or start employment, if you are matched to an opportunity. We will work with the employer to ensure they make any reasonable adjustments to enable you to attend work.
If you’d like to take part, you must enrol to the LEAP programme between September and 1st December 2025. If we find you a job that you wish to start, you must start no later than 31st December 2025.
We need your name and contact details so we can keep in touch with you. All participants enrolling will need to share their national insurance number. To support you to find a suitable placement and to ensure we can support you we will need details of any health conditions that may affect your ability to work, or carry out certain tasks – this is so we can help find the most suitable work but also keep you safe.
If we match you to a job that you want to start, the employer will need your bank details so that they can pay you.
When we receive your details, we will either email or phone you to arrange a convenient time to do an ‘Introduction’ meet with you, this might be over the phone or it might be a face to face meeting, if you prefer it to be face to face please let us know.
At the ‘Introduction’ meeting we will chat through the programme to ensure it is right for you. You will have chance to ask questions. If you still want to go ahead we will take some details from you to help us find and match you to the right type of job. We will need your national insurance number at this stage. We will confirm when we will next be in touch, it is likely we will agree to contact you on a weekly basis until we find you a potentially suitable job.
If you decide at this stage that it is not for you, you don’t have to continue.
